Install.
FreeCORE upgrades TrueNAS CORE 13.3 in place. The release image is also available for fresh installations.
Check your configuration
Save a backup from System › General › Save Config and open it here.
Nothing is uploaded. The file is read by code running in your browser. The configuration check makes no network requests. Disconnect and the check still works.
Switch the update train
A stock 13.3 system looks for updates on iXsystems’ server and verifies them with iXsystems’ certificate. A script changes both, and --revert puts it back.
Upgrade in place
The upgrade runs from System › Update like any other. Its configuration database migrates on first boot, and not all of it survives: OpenVPN is replaced by WireGuard, and the enterprise-licensed features are gone.
The upgrade captures a return point to the previously configured 13.3 state. It does not expire automatically: the web interface shows the space its snapshots retain, and you can remove it when ready. Confirming incompatible pool-feature upgrades forfeits the return.

Fresh install
Instead of upgrading: write the image to removable media, boot it, install to the boot device. Verify its detached OpenPGP signature before writing the media.
