VM comparison total1,7291

One SNMP check needs a high-availability pair and is excluded on both platforms. Exclusions count as neither passes nor failures.

Four SMART lifecycle checks need physical disks and are omitted from the VM collection. They run in the physical comparison.

Test cleanup passed separately and is not included in these totals.

Physical comparison total1,7491

One SNMP check needs a high-availability pair and is excluded on both platforms. Exclusions count as neither passes nor failures.

SMART lifecycle checks run here. Device, Disk, SMART and Stats counts reflect the physical machine’s disks.

Test cleanup passed separately and is not included in these totals.

These comparisons overlap; their totals are never added together. Full test results and a signed report are available under Test evidence.

How we compare

Comparison methodReference, matched tests and result classifications

Compatibility tests compare inherited CORE behavior with the reference release. Feature tests cover FreeCORE’s own additions and changes.

  1. Reference release

Compare stock TrueNAS CORE 13.3 with FreeCORE using specific release images. Their versions and SHA-256 hashes are included in the report.

  2. Equivalent conditions

Run the same test suite on both systems under equivalent conditions. Each comparison comes from a complete test run.

  3. Case-by-case results

Compare each FreeCORE result with the reference result. Report preserved behavior, regressions, exclusions and additional passes separately.

Reading the result classifications
Preserved
Pass on the reference release and on FreeCORE.
Regression
Pass on the reference release; fail or skip on FreeCORE.
Excluded
A test skipped on both systems for a reason documented before testing. Counted as neither pass nor failure.
Expanded
A documented reference skip that passes on FreeCORE. Reported separately from preserved behavior.

Test evidence

Report and downloadsSigned test report · checksums · verification guide

The signed bundle contains the test report, individual results and coverage notes for FreeCORE 15.0-U1.3, with SHA-256 checksums and digital signatures.

Verify the signature

Follow the guide with Python 3.11+ and GnuPG to check the signatures and file checksums. The report identifies the tested image by its SHA-256 hash. The installation image has a separate release signature.

Scope & limitations

A passing comparison establishes compatibility within its recorded scope. It is not a performance benchmark, a security audit or a guarantee for every workload, device and configuration.

Virtual and physical results are separate, overlapping comparisons. Physical tests add coverage on real hardware; the totals are never added together. API coverage does not replace installer testing, visual review or validation on a specific hardware model. The test machines and hardware needs are described on the Hardware page.

For a reproducible problem, open an issue with the FreeCORE version and steps to reproduce. Remove identifying details and credentials before sharing diagnostics.
